Page turners for 2021

Books! Most of us- be it an ardent book lover or the beginner, found some solace in these magical things in the last year when pandemic forced us to stay put within four walls.

Here are our picks from mix of genres to start 2021 on a hopeful literary note and to add on to your reading list or to try a new genre!

1. Wandering in Strange Lands by Morgan Jerkins

A biography of the author who goes on a journey to trace her roots, the great migration and displacement of black people across America. It is enticing to read the past and present scenarios as accounted by the curious eye.

2. The Push- Ashley Audrain

A debut novel about a mother who wants to be a best parent and her struggles with a clinching climax is on the offer. According to Audrain ” is a novel about the expectations and fears of motherhood and whether we can ever really know the people we hold the closest, and if we can recover from the scars of our past.”

3. ‘First Person Singular’- Haruki Marukami

A heart-stirring collection of stories which challenge and extend the realms of our mind and the world! Be it music or simple baseball game, Murakami’s narration in first person makes it philosophical and mysterious with the signature twist! You can lay your hands on this masterpiece in April!

4. ‘Klara and the Sun’ by Kazuo Ishiguro

Nobel laureate and booker prize winner returns with science fiction which is magnificent and all consuming! It is a story of Klara, AI smart friend who observes human behavior and emotions and hopes that some human will soon take her home! It holds mirror to our current and future world of AI and the eternal question of what is love?

A thrilling read, is available from March 2021!

5. ‘The Nutmeg’s Curse: A Parable for a Planet in Crisis’ by Amitav Ghosh

A non-fiction by the Jnanapith Awardee, on climate crisis and human resource exploitation through the journey of nutmeg around the world as enabled by geopolitical scenario! Available in the later part of the year, it makes for a thought provoking read!
